Feeling like you’re watching on the clock and calendar constantly? You’re late with paying your bills? You have that exam you just don’t feel so secure about? Whatever is going on in your life, it’s just not a problem that you should carry with you all the time.
That can cause serious mental health issues, social life problems and as well, serious harm to your immunity system and health.
WebMD explains stress as: “…any change in the environment that requires your body to react and adjust in response. The body reacts to these changes with physical, mental, and emotional responses. Stress is a normal part of life.
Many events that happen to you and around you — and many things that you do yourself — put stress on your body. You can experience good or bad forms of stress from your environment, your body, and your thoughts.”
Here are some recognizable signs of stress “attacking” your health and body.
Weight fluctuations – stress is slowing down the metabolism, thus, making us gain more weight. Also, stressed people tend to overeat or don’t eat regularly, and than eat a really big meal, which overburdens the gut. Also, stressed and depressed people tend to eat more sweets, to boost up their serotonin and energy level faster, and we all know what carbs do to the body…
Having a short temper
The inability to have patience and understand others is a huge sign you’re overstressed. Why should you understand the problems and events of others, when you can’t even be happy and help yourself? Also, the closest people, such as family and relatives, or roommates suffer the most, because they get “a whole portion of you”, and you’re a complete mess when overstressed.
Major mood swings
Mental health gets affected under stress. Hormones, which directly affect our mental processes are “guilty” for this mood swings. This mostly happens when people are introverted and hold their problems without discussing and with making it seem like there’s nothing wrong with them. In the end, a serious mental breakdown could prevail, and the worse is – you are not able to predict it, stop it or control it.
Loss of libido
A loss of libido is one of the most shameful things a human experiences, and most of the time, they don’t even think it is due to overstressing. They just try to avoid discussing the issue. As we mentioned, hormones are directly influenced by stress. Testosterone and estrogen are stressed too. Don’t let stress get into your bed as well!
Hair loss
Here’s a citation of a study published by the founder of Chicago Cosmetic Surgery and Dermatology, Dr. Carolyn Jacob “Typically, people shed about 100 hairs a day. Most people don’t even notice. Sometimes, a significant stress may spark a change in your body’s routine physiological functions, and cause a disproportionate number of hairs to go into the resting phase at the same time. Then three to four months later, sometimes longer, all those resting hairs are shed. The effect can be alarming. The types of events that disrupt the normal hair cycle can be caused by the substantial physiological stresses on your body.”
Insomnia
Overthinking is the main cause of insomnia. When overstressed, the brain can’t fall asleep because of overthinking and re-creating possible problems and outcomes of what is bothering you. Even if you somehow manage to fall asleep – you have nightmares. Drink some relaxing tea, or have a releasing talk about your problems before going to bed.
Life of the 21st century is very stressful, for sure. But don’t always feel that you need to control just every situation in your life. Life is not always what you decide it to be. Let the time pass and resolve your problem when you can’t figure out a solution by yourself.
