Turmeric can be considered as the king of tubers (tube is the most useful part of a plant). For centuries, turmeric has found its use in cooking, in beauty treatments, and for medicinal purposes. Yes, it has been adding color to our favorite food, but it’s also been adding color to our health. Since it is loaded with antibacterial properties, it works wonders when applied on the skin. It calms down the irritation and inflammation on the surface of our skin within a week or just in a matter of a few days. It’s widely used as an ingredient in most anti-pimple or anti-acne creams.
Turmeric has multiple benefits and we can use this tuber in multiple ways. But, for now, let’s narrow down on one of its essential uses as a cleanser. Cleansing is the first and the most important step in any skin care regime. It’s during cleansing that you gently remove all the dirt, impurities, and dead skin cells from the surface of your skin. Turmeric can be used as a cleanser, which can help us obtain skin which is fair and flawless. This is the ultimate spice you can use to treat all your skin worries. Let’s have a look at how we can use turmeric as an everyday cleanser. Pick your favorite from the list given below.
#1 Cleansing With Turmeric And Milk
- 1 teaspoon of turmeric powder
- 1-2 teaspoon of milk or heavy milk cream
Preparation:
- Mix all the ingredients in a bowl to obtain a lump-free paste.
- Keep it in the fridge to cool for five minutes.
- Wash your face with a mild soap or face wash.
- Then apply this paste on your face and neck.
- Leave it on for 20-30 minutes until the paste begins to dry completely.
- Splash some lukewarm water on your face and slowly rub the mask off with the tips of your fingers.
- Rinse your face with water and pat it dry.
- You can do this 2-3 times in a week for best results.
This combination of turmeric and milk is the easiest cleanser you can make and use at home. Because of the easy availability of both ingredients, many opt for this. However, we’d suggest you use heavy milk cream, if available, instead of normal milk. Here, milk is considered a wholesome moisturizer as it’s composed of water, proteins, and fat which can replenish the lost natural moisture of the skin . Turmeric, on the other hand, soothes the skin and slows down the aging process .
#2 Removing Tan With Turmeric And Orange Peel
- 1 teaspoon of orange peel (powdered)
- 1 tablespoon of yogurt
- 1 teaspoon of turmeric powder
Preparation:
- Mix all the ingredients in a bowl.
- If you cannot find dried powder of orange peel, take fresh peels and grind them into a mixture and use them.
- Apply this mask all over your face and neck. Apply a little extra on the regions where you think your skin’s tanned a little more.
- Once the mask has dried off. Rinse your face and neck with warm water and pat it dry.
- You can repeat this procedure twice or thrice a week for faster results.
Here, both the ingredients — turmeric and yogurt help in getting rid of the tan as both of them cleanse and exfoliate our skin. The peels of orange contain vitamin C and its acidic property lightens the skin tone, thereby reducing the suntan (3). It also has the power to neutralize the effects left on our skin as a result of exposure to UV rays. And the yogurt provides a very soothing effect on our skin.
#3 Treating Oily Skin With Turmeric And Aloe
You’ll Need:
- 1 tablespoon of aloe vera gel
- 1 teaspoon of turmeric powder
- 1 teaspoon of lemon juice
Preparation:
- In a grinder, add the above ingredients and blend them together. The mixture needs to be a little creamy in texture.
- Apply the mixture on your face and neck and leave it on for at least 30 minutes.
- Rinse it off once it’s dried and pat your face dry.
- You can do this 2-3 times in a week to change your oily skin back to its normal self.
The combination of aloe and turmeric is very beneficial to oily skin as these two ingredients have the potential to normalize the production of sebum, an oily substance produced on the surface of our skin (4). The mixture also kills any harmful bacteria present on the skin. Lemon juice, on the other hand, lightens the skin tone or the dark spots of the skin. This pack helps rejuvenate the skin.
